Oh These Parents!

'Relax Pop, relax mom,
Have you got nothing else to do',
Is often heard, in every house, with grown up children.
Parents nurture the children from infancy to teens,
They think of children all the time, as well wishers.
It is a God ordained duty,

Our attention comes down, as they grow,
But our concern for them never does,
We worry for their career, safety.
It is our duty to groom our children,
Integrate them in the society, as a useful productive member.
We insist on our right to:
Advise them, guide them, be informed of their activities.
May be, we are over doing it,
We can learn from animals,
How much to attend,
When to let children, live on their own.
We display our concern for children,
With our worry, through our advisory,
And our suggestions, even if unsolicited, unwelcome and unproductive;
But we, the parents are cold shouldered.
Parents can't help uttering:
'Take care, play safe'.
There is anarchy around:
Latent racist attitude in few, in developed countries;
Road rage, fundamentalism, gender inequality and sex tourism in developing countries.
The grown up children may be pragmatic, less emotional, more logical,
Prefer to take their own decisions,
For it is their life.
Children like grown ups, are conformists,
New generation likes partying, drinks,
We the parents accept it,
But can not help advising,
'Be moderate, not more than two'.
The enigmatic smile,
Conveys the message, to relax,
We still insist,
'OK, do as you like, but please do not drive afterwards,'
Another smile!
We withdraw honorably,
Pray to God:
'If an untoward incident happens,
Look after our family.'
Who are we to worry, question the happenings in the world?
Let us trust God,
Have faith in Him;
But it is easy said than done.
We do not worry deliberately,
It is a sub-conscious activity,
It happens for the loved ones.
Attachment is a double-edged weapon,
A boon, when it facilitates grooming of children,
A bane, when, it irritates grown up children.
We all realize, when we become parents.
Our children too will, when their turn comes.
The cycle continues,
History repeats itself,
Humanity will never learn its lesson,
For there is no formal training,
Humanity relies more on emotions, than on logic.
Isn't this, what an unconditional love is all about?
Now,
There is awareness among parents,
They are addressing the problem.
In Occidental societies:
Parental duty is, till child is 18,
Thereafter, a child enjoys or suffers autonomy,.
And mortgaging own house, to enjoy the fruits of own labor,
Helps parents, in a way.
Oriental parents are still in a dilemma!
Tied up with unwanted, excessive attachment.
Life goes on!
